For what it's worth, the following image was sent to me in an anonymous email so I can't testify to its authenticity. She (or he, since it wasn't signed) says he/she was one of the Bethel housekeepers and spotted the name tag in a waste basket. At that time, the early 70's, Knorr was regarded by many, including this person, (though disliked by even many Bethelites) as god-like. The person said that he/she had thought for the last few years of placing it on eBay to fetch a few bucks. Instead, the person thought it would be of greater service to simply share the scanned image. This person left the organization completely as his/her contract expired a few years later. Fats.

Don't forget an easily overlooked fact -- Number 1 was not Russell.

Hi Cedars,
Very good article as you make some strong points.
The following numbers I stumbled on the other evening may have some relevance. They are languages that Awake! is translated into, and by certain years. I realize it's spotty (not all years are reported -- or I wasn't able to find the report) but for what it's worth, 2004 was a peak year where Awake! was translated into 87 languages.
1948, 3
1952, 3
1966, 26
1995, 75
1997, 80
1998, 62
2000, 58
2004, 87
2008, 81

What apostates fail to recognize is...
by nananana inyou can cut & paste all the excerpts from articles you want...you can leak all the boe letters, you can pretend to be witnesses and come to the conventions and meetings...but.
no other organization can begin to rival the success and magnitude of the prophecy found in mt 24:14. so apostates....don't waste your time spending countless hours digging up articles and reading books to convince yourself to turn away from jh's organization.
no matter what "evidence" you find you cannot ignore the obvious fulfillment of matthew 24:14.. .

What made you leave?
by CuriousUK inapologies if this has been discussed before, but i am really very interested in finding out why members here left their congregations for lives away from jw?.
was there a "lightbulb" moment where you just woke up one day and realised that you had been brainwashed?
or a slow realisation over time?

Some have told me that THE GREAT WATCHTOWER CONTRADICTION was a wakeup call to them although that 11 minute read is actually designed for newly interested ones.

That letter is some 16 years old but is spot on. New ones are at the mercy of ignorance that is nurtured by lack of Watchtower disclosure, early on, of so many important issues. THE GREAT WATCHTOWER CONTRADICTION, an 11 minute read, is another disclosure of sorts that helps newly interested ones unearth answers to questions they may never have otherwise asked. It also gives pause to seasoned JWs who will hope they never encounter such in door to door work.

opinion needed quick!
by independenthinker inhey guys, .
bringing my gf along tonight after been forced to invite her(shes worldly).
how will people treat her?

I know I'm tardy on this one and you've already received some good suggestions. However, realizing she's had little exposure (when compared to your own born-in status) she may find the following 11 minute read quite revealing. For new ones THE GREAT WATCHTOWER CONTRADICTION is a huge disclosure of several matters. For seasoned JW's, I've been told it is quite disturbing.

My 1,914th post: The man I personally blame for the early success of the Watch Tower Society
by cedars init seems fitting to use my 1,914th post to address a doctrine that has shaped the lives of so many of us, and which continues to be a cornerstone belief that is used to keep individual jehovahs witnesses trapped in servitude to a man-made corporation.. .
that said, we might well ask who started it all?
we might say russell, who borrowed heavily from the millerite teachings of the second adventists in advocating a chronology that included the year 1914. as we know, when we research early witness literature we realise that the year 1914 featured in russell's chronology only as the end of a series of events culminating in armageddon, and not the beginning of christ's presence.

Great piece of writing, Cedars. I'm so sorry to learn about your personal situation, "... It is their harsh rulership that so threatens the stability of my own family if I do not keep my actions in check, ..."
However, we're now looking ahead to your post number 1919, 1925, 1942, and 1975.

Menlo Park KH - Elder Tells All - and more

" the connection between Menlo Park KH and smaller magazines should be"
Hear me out on this one. And please correct me if I've made incorrect assumptions.
- Local Kingdom Hall is built, paid for, and occupied by the locals but (since early 90's) now a miniscule piece of Watchtower Society's immense real estate holdings.
- Kingdom Hall's condition becomes shabby or it is too small so a recommendation by Watchtower-appointed committee is rubber-stamped by vote of the local membership to build new Kingdom Hall
- Local membership funds the new building by way of donations and a loan, usually from Watchtower Society.
- Once paid for, new KH ownership reverts to Watchtower Society.
- Old KH is sold and proceeds go directly to Watchtower Society.
The above 5 step sequence actually represents a timeline of events -- a period wherein certain real estate is procured, developed, then deemed inadquate. That property is replaced -- with no penalty or loss to Watchtower. The burden of expense rests entirely on the shoulders of the local membership. The gain -- entirely that of Watchtower headquarters.
Conclusion: the more frequently that headquarters needs to reinforce their coffers, they merely shrink that timeline.
One scenario assumption: Let's assume that at present costs, the older Kingdom Hall is disposed of for $1,000,000 and that it was in use for some 20 years. That's some $50,000 annually which headquarters has harvested for their worldwide fund.
The following Awake! experience from 8 years ago indicates there may now be some 100,000 congregations, many of them in single-occupancy Kingdom Halls.
"Saturday, June 7, 2003, saw the dedication of the Chinle Kingdom Hall. The dedication talk was presented by Gerrit Lösch, a member of the Governing Body of Jehovah’s Witnesses. In his discourse he described the great expansion that has been taking place worldwide in the number of Kingdom Halls, and yet, he explained, thousands of additional halls are still needed to serve the more than 94,600 congregations. He also took the audience of 165 through 15 reasons why they should appreciate their new Kingdom Hall and the benefits of regular attendance at Christian meetings." Awake!, 2004, 1/8 p. 22
I invite you, dear reader, to do the math.
